I am a new teacher/catechist. How do I get started?
Who should be taking the classes/programs from the Office of Faith Formation?
Our classes are open to everyone! Anyone who is interested in learning more about the class topic or deepening their relationship with God and others can attend our programs.
I am a teacher in the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of Louisville. How may classes do I need to take each year?
Teachers who teach religion in the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of Louisville are expected to be taking classes to be working towards their Advanced level certificate at the rate of 30 credits every two years after their second year of teaching. (Note: The Advanced level certificate is the second level. The Associate level certificate [the first level] must be completed before the Advanced level can be achieved.)
I am a volunteer in my parish. How may classes do I need to take each year?
Volunteer Catechists are expected to take classes at the rate of 15 credits every two years for their formation.
Catechists include but are not limited to: Children’s Religious Education Catechists and Assistant Catechists, Small Group Leaders, Bible Study Facilitators, RCIA Team Members, Youth Ministers and Youth Volunteer/Assistant Ministers, and Prayer Group Leaders.

How can I receive a copy of my catechist record?
Contact Lynn McDaniel via email or 502-636-0296, ext. 1267. A copy of your record can be emailed or mailed to you directly.
Records are sent to school principals, with teacher information, and to parish catechetical leaders, with parish catechist information, once a year for review.
How can I receive a copy of the classes I have completed?

If I am working towards my catechist certificate do all my credits need to come from classes/programs from the Office of Faith Formation?
No. Credits may be obtained from programs other than those offered by our office. If you plan to attend an event that you feel may be eligible for credit you will need to fill out a request from in advanced of attending the event. Click here for the form.
Events that may be eligible but are not limited to are: parish missions, parish retreats, faculty/staff retreat for teachers at a Catholic school, retreats held at a local Catholic organization or institution, Catholic conventions, guest speakers at a Catholic organization, parish or school, and webinars hosted by a reputable Catholic organization.
Is there a cost for classes?
Yes. Our individual classes range in cost from $10-$35 per class/session. The cost covers materials for each class/session. Some trainings and programs have higher cost as they are multiple class programs (e.g. RCIA Coordinator Training).
If you are a teacher or parish catechist check with your school or parish to see if they will cover the cost of classes as professional development.
