From the Industrial Revolution to the Technological Revolution the Chair of Peter has continued to offer guidance and wisdom for each generation through their encyclicals. To understand the role of Pope Leo XIV and his response to the challenges of the 21st century, this session will offer an overview of themes from the letters written by Pope Leo XIII (1878) through Pope Francis (2025) which prepared and set the stage for the role of the papacy in the world today. This vast knowledge and understanding of the Popes continues to influence today, but it is essential to review them in light of their culture and context, and then apply their wisdom today. A brief biography of each pope will also be included in the session. Activity ideas for the classroom will also be offered.
