A Blue Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 South Fifth St., on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
The Mass is intended to give thanks for the work of current and former first responders and pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty, a news release from the Cathedral of the Assumption said. Father Martin A. Linebach, vicar general, will preside.
“The Blue Mass allows us to honor heroes in our community — the women and men who put themselves in harm’s way daily to serve, protect and defend us,” said Maggie Cyphers, director of worship at the Cathedral.
All people who work as first responders are encouraged to attend.
Drum corps and bagpipe players from local first responder agencies will be on hand. An honor guard will also perform ceremonial duties.
Representatives of the Louisville Metro Police Department, Louisville Fire Department, Louisville Emergency Medical Services and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are expected to attend.
The Mass is open to the public; there is no need to make reservations. Agencies that wish to participate formally in the event may contact Cyphers at 657-5222 or mcyphers@cathedraloftheassumption.org.

The Rules of Engagement
Presented by: Mike Patin
Date: Sep 17, 2019
Time: 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM EDT
Church leaders bemoan the number of teens and young adults leaving their faith behind. Contrary to popular belief, these folks don’t want to be entertained by the Church; they want to be engaged in their faith. In this webinar, Mike Patin will explore the values and principles needed in this digital generation to bring people into catechesis and ministry.
