I explained that it was a special light that is always lit when Jesus is at home in the tabernacle. She found the idea that Jesus is there right now reassuring. …”

There are two upcoming formation and education opportunities from OLFE/Faith Formation. These sessions are open to all persons; not just catechists. They might especially interest anyone on a worship committee, music minister, other lay ministers and all of us in the pews.
Foundation of Liturgy: Thursday Oct. 9, 7-9:30pm at Our Lady of Lourdes. This session will be led by Berry Mudd, Liturgical Consultant, Office of Worship, Archdiocese of Louisville. This session is a brief overview of the historical development of the liturgy, the basic principles of celebrating liturgy and the introduction/concluding rites of the Mass.
Overview of the Mass: Thursday Oct. 23, 7-9:30pm at Our Lady of Lourdes. This session will be led by Judy Bullock, Ed.D, Director of Worship, Archdiocese of Louisville. This session focuses on the Mass, the “source and summit” of all the Church’s activity, as well as, the meaning and purpose of the primary elements of the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
The cost for each session is $10. Checks need to be made payable to ALMI, 1935 Lewiston Dr., Louisville, KY 40216. To register contact Linda McLemore at lmclemore@archlou.org or call her directly at 502-448-8581.
Archdiocesan Faith Formation staff was well-represented and took part at the recent Encuentro 2014 day on September 27 in Louisville. These pictures show Mr. Art Turner, the Director of OLFE’s Faith Formation division, leading a workshop for Hispanic youth.
Encuentro 2014 — The 2nd annual Encuentro Day was held on Saturday, September 28. The workshop/celebration was sponsored by the Hispanic Ministry division of the Office of Multicultural Ministry in Louisville. Pictured here are Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, Fr. Joe Rankin (Vicar for Hispanic Affairs), Fr. Rafael, the keynote speaker from SEPI in Miami, and Encuentro participants of various ages and parishes.
Many people were recognized for their achievements in Catechetical Ministry, Initiation Team Training, Specialization in Discipleship, Certificates in Youth Ministry, national Certificate in Youth Ministry, Catechist magazine honors and the Roncalli Award during last night’s celebration. Congratulations to all the award recipients.
This year the Discipleship group gave a special award to Archbishop Kurtz as a thank you for his support of lay ministries and their ongoing formation.
Our Archdiocese is blessed to have so many lay ministers who are dedicated to faith formation in their parishes and communities.
Thank you, to all of you!
Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville, the President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (www.usccb.org), has joined Pope Francis and the Office for the Synod of Bishops in calling for a universal day of prayer, on September 28, for the upcoming Synod on the Family.
This extraordinary Synod will take place on October 5-19 at the Vatican.
Archbishop Kurtz, the head of the Archdiocese of Louisville, Ky., has called the meeting in Rome “an important moment for the church and for families.”
