It is the first contemplative community in the world to welcome people with Down syndrome to a life of consecration to God.

By Cyprien Viet of Vatican News
The Little Sisters Disciples of the Lamb live in the center of France. They are the first contemplative community in the world to welcome into consecrated life people with Down syndrome.

The seeds of the community, which has a special devotion to St. Benedict and St. Therese of Lisieux, began in the 1980s. It started with a friendship. Line was on a spiritual search of her own and felt a calling to work with children. Véronique is a young woman with Down syndrome who felt a vocation to the consecrated life.

Presented by: Tim Matovina
Date: Sep 10, 2019
Time: 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM EDT

Mary in Hispanic Spirituality
Latinos have a profound devotion to Mary and venerate her in numerous images and shrines. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the most well-known of these images and is the Patroness of America, but every nation of Latin American and the Caribbean has a distinctive Marian patroness. In this webinar we will examine the treasure of Hispanic devotion to Mary. We will also explore ways to extend and deepen this spirituality in light of the wider Catholic Tradition about Mary.

This webinar will be presented in Spanish.

The Rules of Engagement

Church leaders bemoan the number of teens and young adults leaving their faith behind. Talking to Teens About Suicide
Presented by: Roy Petitfils
Date: Sep 24, 2019
Time: 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM EDT

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among teens today. Teens want us–parents, teachers, parish ministers, and youth leaders–to talk with them about suicide, even though they may not initiate the conversation. While it is uncomfortable to talk about, it is essential that we engage teens in this tough conversation. This webinar will help those working in parishes, youth ministry, and schools learn:

  • How to identify the warning signs for suicide, including what teens do and communicate via social media and online
  • Which youth are at risk for suicide
  • Research-based safe messaging guidelines for discussing suicide with teens
  • Common questions from teens and suggestions for responding to them.

In this webinar, Katie Prejean McGrady–who participated in the pre-Synod meetings in Rome on behalf of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops–will reflect on:

  • how Christus Vivit lays out a framework for ministry programs
  • what the Pope is encouraging youth leaders to focus on when engaging young people, and
  • what it means for ministry going forward.

Companions in Conflict
Presented by: Ann M. Garrido
Date: Oct 8, 2019
Time: 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM EDT

When we are in times of tension with families, friends, and fellow church members, we can end up feeling isolated and alone.  We feel as if we must be doing something wrong.  No one else has these problems, do they?  But a look at our Church’s history reveals that conflict is a part of every Christian’s life.  We are not alone.  We have companions on the journey and models of handling tension well.  Come along with Ann Garrido to discover five saints who were no strangers to conflict and who may have clues to help us unknot our own tough relationships.

The Leaven of Christ: That in All Things God May be Glorified!

In the Gospel of Luke we read: “To what can I compare the kingdom of God? It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.” We are called and sent by Jesus to be leaven for a world in need of being raised up. The light we bear is that of the Gospel, the Word of God dwelling in us by the Holy Spirit. That Light is not meant to be buried or concealed, but to radiate and lift up a world darkened by division, violence and injustice. We will reflect on the practical means by which we fulfill our mission as Christians doing the work of Jesus to reconcile and heal, participating in his mission to create a new world conformed to God’s love. Fr. Adrian Burke, OSB, will lead the retreat. ($255 single, $425 double)
